FEED Project

KWETU in partnership with Vi Agroforestry is implementing the FEED project under the Agroforestry for Sustainable Livelihoods and Biodiversity (ASILI-B) program. The ASILI-B program sets to improve smallholder farmer family’s food and nutrition security, sustainable livelihoods, gender equality, and resilience while enhancing biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation.

The Farming for Environmental and Economic Development (FEED) project aims to enhance the environmental resilience and livelihoods of smallholder farmers (SHFs) in Kilifi County through the promotion of climate-resilient farming practices, technical capacity building, and financial inclusion. Its overall goal is to reduce climate vulnerability and improve the resilience of smallholder farmers and agricultural ecosystems through climate change mitigation, adaptation, and biodiversity conservation practices. Specifically, the FEED project will work towards achieving three outcomes as follows:

  1. Increase smallholder farmers’ resilience to climate change by diversifying and innovating farming practices.
  2. Enhance agroecosystem functioning and environmental resilience through improved land management and Sustainable Agricultural Land Management (SALM) practices.
  3. Promote the adoption of water conservation technologies to ensure efficient water use, reduce water shortages, and boost agricultural productivity.

Implementation of FEED project is based on our theory of change that strengthening smallholder farmers’ resource capacity and capabilities, promoting sustainable agricultural land management, and improving biodiversity and productivity can reduce their vulnerability to climate change by enhancing their agroecological approaches and green enterprises. The primary target group is 300 small holder farmers in Kilifi South and Ganze Sub Counties in Kilifi County.
