KWETU Business officer

Position:  KWETU Business officer.

Reports To:  Project coordinator.

Project: Kwetu Bluebiz project.       

Kwetu is a local partner in the implementation of a Mastercard funded foundation in partnership with Technoserve dubbed ‘Blue biz project’. The project targets empowering economically disadvantaged and vulnerable young people in the Blue economy sector in the coast region.  Kwetu has been awarded a grant for the pilot phase of 6 months before the full implementation phase of 3 years.

Kwetu therefore seeks a suitable candidate to fill the above-mentioned position of a Business officer under the following terms.

Work station:

Kilifi County with implementation region being Kilifi and Mombasa Counties.

 Duration of the assignment:

5 months for the pilot phase of the project with possibility of renewal subject to successful implementation and funding.

Position Description:

Kwetu training centre is seeking to fill the position of a business officer, to support in the implementation of Bluebiz project in Kilifi and Mombasa Counties. Reporting to the Project coordinator Bluebiz project, the Business officer will be responsible for timely and effective implementation of project activities and achievement of the project’s goal.

 Key roles and responsibility

  • Area mapping, mobilization and recruitment of program beneficiaries using set criteria.
  • Deliver training sessions according to the program guidelines.
  • Provide linkages support to the micro businesses including linkages to financial institutions, to suppliers and other ecosystem players according to the program guidelines.
  • Support in all types of monitoring and evaluation activities, surveys and in reporting, weekly, monthly and in developing program success stories and lessons learnt.
  • Follow and maintain the program work plan.
  • Work closely with project coordinator, MEAL officer and other project team to ensure program deliverables are met through critical review of project activities in the field and eliminate any risks that may hinder effective implementation of the Project.
  • share activity and monthly reports on the program progress updates.

Minimum required skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business related field or years’ working experience of working with Micro- enterprises or Advanced diploma with 3 years working experience.
  • Experience with digital training and delivery mechanisms.
  • Experience working with youths preferably in the coast region.
  • Strong and demonstrable report writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills a must.
  • Proficiency in MS Office especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Training experience will be an added advantage.

KWETU PROJECT COORDINATOR.

Position:  Project coordinator.

LOCATION: Kilifi County with possible travels within the Coastal Counties.

Reports To:  Centre Manager.

Project: Kwetu Bluebiz project.

General description of the assignment.

Under the Supervision of the Centre manager, the project coordinator will be responsible for the implementation of the Bluebiz project. The main responsibilities of the coordinator will be to plan, coordinate the implementation, document and report the outcomes of the action. S/he will work in close collaboration with project staff, diverse partners from local communities, to international visitors, local government to private sector partners.

 In additional the project officer will be responsible in coordinating training function of the project.

Specific roles

–           The participatory planning of the project.

–           Coordination of all activities ensuring timely and quality implementation.

–           Documentation and reporting of all activities.

–           Engagement, guidance and Supervision of project staff.

 Specific tasks for training

  • Ensures that Standard operating procedures are in place and known to all staff.
  • Ensures that all trainings are conducted according to standard operating procedures and are providing high quality input.
  • Develops /reviews training courses for the centre.
  • Advertises these courses through social media and other cost-effective means.
  • Develops a quarterly training programme.
  • Ensures that all training materials are available.
  • Ensures that training equipment is functional.
  • Supports staff in their training activities.

 Qualification

  1. A bachelor’s degree in either of the following disciplines: Coastal and marine resource management, Fisheries and aquatic sciences, environmental sciences or a social science degree with biasness in marine projects   Or
  1. An advanced diploma in related disciplines as above with 5 years working experience in similar position.
  1. At least 3 years of project coordination in a local non-governmental organization.
  1. Advanced computer application skills in delivering trainings and other programs digitally.
  1. Experience in coordinating teams.
