Position:  Business Development officer– Kwetu Blue biz project.

LOCATION: Kilifi County.

Reports To: Project Coordinator.

 

Background

Kwetu is a local partner in the implementation of a three year Mastercard funded foundation in partnership with Technoserve dubbed ‘Blue biz project’. The project targets empowering economically disadvantaged and vulnerable young people in the Blue economy sector in the coast region.  

Job Summary:

Kwetu training centre is seeking to fill the position of a business Development officer, to support in the implementation of Blue biz project in Kilifi County. Reporting to the Project coordinator Blue biz project, the Business Development officer will be responsible for timely and effective implementation of project activities and achievement of the project’s goal.

We are seeking a passionate and strategic Business Development Officer to support the growth and development of blue economy enterprises in Kilifi County. This role is ideal for someone with a strong business background and a commitment to sustainable practices.

Your Role:
As the Business Development Officer, you will offer critical guidance and resources that help local businesses thrive within the blue economy. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic guidance on business planning, market strategies, and scaling to blue economy enterprises.
  • Deliver training and enhance skills in sustainable practices and marine resource management for entrepreneurs and stakeholders.
  • Establish key connections with buyers and financial institutions to facilitate market access and secure funding for growth.
  • Oversee project management tasks supporting blue economy businesses, including budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for blue economy initiatives.
  • Advocate for environmental sustainability standards and practices that protect marine resources.
  • Implement frameworks to track and evaluate support initiatives, providing regular updates and insights to stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, commerce, Business studies or related field with at least 3 years working experience working with Micro- enterprises or advanced diploma in the above fields with at least 5 years working experience in the related field.
  • Experience in the blue economy sector, focusing on business development, project management, and technical business support on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the blue economy, including business advisory services and capacity building at the coast region.
  • Business development and entrepreneurial skills, with a focus on supporting start-ups and small enterprises in the blue economy.
  • Experience in market systems development, including linking MSMEs to market and financial services.
  • Excellent project management skills, with experience in planning, budgeting, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Proficient communication and networking skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of digital tools for business support, including data analysis and financial modelling, Training experience will be an added advantage.
